Notes on this list

A handful of named tournaments recur in the region's calendar. The Rhein-Main-Open is a FIDE-rated open over five days in the Bürgerhaus Kirdorf in Bad Homburg, played in late spring or early summer with a capped field. The Heusenstamm Sparkassen Open follows in November in the Martinsee hall in Heusenstamm and is rated by FIDE as well.

The Frankfurt Open City Championship, run by the Frankfurt chess district, is played as seven Monday rounds in spring at the Bildungs- und Kulturzentrum in Höchst, with entry by registration. The Youth Classic of the Chess Tigers fills the Saalbau hall in Zeilsheim with young players on a Saturday in June. Club championships, monthly blitz and the rapid evenings of single clubs are not listed here; they stay on the entries of the clubs that hold them.
